I John 2:12-14

"I write to you...because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one."

I, too, wanted to read ahead to get to these encouraging words. I like it how John says that he is writing purposefully to remind us that we are strong in the Lord. This struck me as a model for my writing and talking with Christian friends, not just to empathize with them or express concern, not just to remind them that I am encouraged by our shared faith, or that everything will work out for their good, but that they ARE strong! because of the word living in them. God, working outside of time, seeing the end that we cannot, already defeated Satan in the garden. Just his word was enough to seal our salvation. And his word is enough now to overcome our battles--with sinful self, rocky relationships, recurring temptations, doubts and fears, all of it. He has already won!! You are strong in Christ!

John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Exodus 15:2
The LORD is my strength and my defense ; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

  1. Thanks a million for your Bible references at the end of your post Paula! They uplifted me and will the other girls! :) I hope you don't mind I copy and pasted the John 16:33 onto my FB status - it's too encouraging not to share and reminds me to take this whole day with the truth that God has overcome all the troubles that may be present. Love you!

  2. :) Glad they uplifted you as they do me. They are YOUR words, too...love from your Father; please feel free to post them!haha :) I will be praying for you and your family at this time, especially. Security in finances in this life is never set, and that is a scary reality. But security in the success of our soul lies with God, and he will not take this away! (Romans 8:38) Furthermore, he can and will take care of your/your mom & dad's every need. He will work this thing, too, for their good and the good of others in his own perfect way. I pray that he shows you/them his strength and comfort in the times of waiting. It is not always fun to look back and remember periods of waiting or painful growth in the past, but many times they are connected in some way. And God always brings some kind of relief, resolution, or new perspective in the pit or plateau. He will provide the strength and answers!! Love you!! He has overcome all of your difficulties, even now!
